Sifnos Agios Tafos School

The School of Agios Tafos in Sifnos: Founded in the 19th century by Ioannis Kottounios, a distinguished Greek Scholar, the School of Agios Tafos (Holy Grave) was the first Greek School of Sifnos. At first it was housed in the remarkable Monastery of Agios Ioannis Chrissostomos in the village of Petali, central Sifnos. Later it was transferred to Kastro, the capital of Sifnos that time. The School of Agios Tafos, also known as Hellinomouseio or the Educational Institution of the Archipelagos, no longer works today but it was a very important institution for its time, offering basic education to the children of Sifnos and other islands of Cyclades.
