Sifnos Tower of Exambela

The Ancient Tower of Exambela in Sifnos: The ruins of an ancient tower are found in the southeastern side of Exambella, a small village very close to the capital Apollonia. The record of these ruins was first reported by traveler Ludwig Ross in 1837 during his four day trip to Sifnos.

Professor Iakovos Dragatsis took great interest in studying these towers and particularly the Black Tower of Exambella. Used as a watchtower to protect the island from enemies and pirate attacks, this tower stands in good condition compared to the other towers of the island, which are almost ruined.
