Photo exhibition in Artemonas

Jul 24, 2010 — Aug 22, 2010 • Category: Events
A photo exhibition was inaugurated in Sifnos on Saturday, July 24th in the Cultural Centre of Artemonas, a traditional village of the island very close to the capital. Organized by the Municipality of Sifnos, the Cultural Centre of Sifnos and the Cultural Association of Sifnos in cooperation with the Photo Archives of Benaki Museum, this exhibition depicts the island before it gets a tourist destination, around the 1950s and 1970s. The photos of the exhibition have been taken from 8 professional and amateurs photographers and the selection was based on the eccentricity of every artist. The camera captured the inhabitants of Sifnos in their daily life, celebrating in local festivals (panigiria) or working the land. Kids playing in the countryside and potters creating ceramic vases are also themes of the photos. The wild and barren landscape in the inland and the traditional Cycladic style provided a great inspiration to photographers. The exhibition will last till August 22nd.
