Information about Messaria

Messaria village Santorini: Messaria is a small village situated 4km southeast of Fira, around a vast area of vineyards, at the centre of Santorini. Most of the inhabitants are occupied with wine making and there is a local winery to see and taste a wide range of wines. A stroll around the village reveals magnificent neoclassical buildings and restored mansions. Between them are numerous restaurants and nice hotels. You can visit Argyros mansion, one of the best examples of neoclassical architecture in Santorini, that was built in 1888. You can sit also at the main square for a nice Greek coffee under the trees.
A few but yet beautiful churches with impressive bell towers can also be found in different places of the village.

Note that the roads can get very busy during the day as it is on the main thoroughfare for getting around the island.

How to get to Messaria

There are many different ways to get to Messaria from any location on the island.
Airport to Messaria: 3 km / 1.8 miles | Port to Messaria: 7 km / 4.3 miles | Fira to Messaria: 3 Km / 1.8 miles

Car rental: Τhere’s the option of renting a car in Santorini with as little as 14.5 euros per day and pick it up directly from the airport, port or your hotel. Using a car rental allows visitors to discover Messaria and many other places of interest in Santorini at their own pace.

Public transfers: In Messaria village lies the 4th stop of the bus route Fira > Perissa. Fira is where the central bus station of the island is located. There are bus connections between this bus station and the most areas of the island. There are buses to Perissa approximately every 1.5 hours. Consider that time schedules might change according to the season. Check the official timetables here.
From Santorini airport to Messaria: There’s a bus station at the airport located between the arrivals and departures buildings. The buses that depart from there take visitors to the main bus station in Fira village, which is 5 km away. There is a bus from Santorini airport to Fira approximately every hour. From Fira, visitors should take another bus to reach Messaria, following the route Fira > Perissa.
From Santorini port (Athinios) to Messaria: The bus station is located on the port of Santorini. From there, visitors who have arrived by ferry to Santorini can take a bus to Fira Central bus station, which is 8.5 km away. From Fira, visitors should take another bus to reach Messaria, following the route Fira > Perissa.
Tip: Since buses don’t always stop in every scheduled stop of their itinerary, our advice to visitors is to inform the driver about their final destination, so that he makes a stop there.
