More info about Finikia
The gateway on the entrance consists of volcanic rocks, while the houses are mainly pastel-colored. Dwellings are built according to Cycladic architecture, showcasing round roofs and small doors. Numerous canavas (cave storages used by old winemakers) also lie among the buildings.
In the heart of the settlement sits the church of Agia Matrona, which is celebrated on October 20th. The church was built in 1859 and boasts a wonderful iconostasis. Its courtyard offers unparalleled views of the settlement, the surrounding area, and the blue sea.
Fun fact: In the courtyard of Agia Matrona you will come up to a tall palm tree - that comprises the inspiration behind the village's name since "Finikia" is the Greek word for the palm tree!
Accommodation-wise, Finikia hosts some lodgings, including rooms, villas, and hotels. Bear in mind that the settlement wants to preserve a more quiet environment, so luxury options are not part of the available accommodation.
Since Finikia is situated in the northeastern part of Santorini and in proximity to the sea, it allows you to easily access the regional coastline. Lovely beaches that can be approached from Finikia include Baxedes and Paradise.
