More info about the Romantic Sunset

Beautiful sunset points are scattered around the island, so you will not have a hard time finding one. All caldera villages built on the west side of Santorini facing the volcano (such as Imerovigli, Fira, and Oia) offer lovely views. Oia, which is located on the northwest side of the island, has the most beautiful views since you can see the sun literally diving into the sea!
There are different places that stand out. Some of the best spots are:
• The Castle of Oia: One of the most popular sites to gaze at the sunset. It lies on the very edge of the village overlooking the Aegean sea. Unfortunately, the place becomes very crowded during that time of the day; that means that in order to find a place to stand or sit, you need to be there at least one hour ahead of the sunset time. Due to its popularity, you might feel overwhelmed by so many people around you.
3-dome church: Located 10 minutes (walking distance) from the Castle of Oia but less crowded during the golden hour.
Ammoudi: A fishing village with fish taverns in the foothills of Oia. It is ideal for dinner with seaside views.
Agios Ioannis yellow chapel: A unique remote chapel close to Oia with fantastic views and a more private atmosphere.
The lighthouse: A lovely location on the southwest side of the island with fewer crowds.
Three bells church: It is located in Fira and offers the perfect Cycladic background for memorable photos.

Due to the fact that the romantic sunset of Santorini is so magical, couples prefer to spend the late afternoons in the company of each other. Hotels and restaurants have made the necessary arrangements exclusively targeted to attract couples who come in droves from all over the world just to view the sunset from Santorini’s many viewpoints. Note that many bars and restaurants charge a minimum consumption per table during that time of the day, whereas reservations are strongly recommended. Tables with better, uninterrupted views might also be charged accordingly.

Undoubtedly, Santorini is among the most romantic places in the world. There is a huge demand for hotel space, particularly in the picturesque village of Oia, which offers some of the most inspiring views. A hotel suite with caldera views is the only place where you will be able to enjoy the sunset in more privacy away from the hundreds of tourists. Spending a little more money booking a nice hotel when visiting Santorini is a great idea that will certainly pay off.

Some of the most notable hotels with marvelous sunset views in Santorini are:
Astra suites in Imerovigli
Charisma suites in Oia
Canaves Oia Epitome in Oia
Cavo Tagoo in Imerovigli
Andronis Concept wellness resort in Imerovigli
Celestia Grand in Fira
Homeric Poems in Firostefani
Grace Hotel in Imerovigli

Last but not least, a novel way of experiencing the unique atmosphere is by embarking on a sunset cruise on board a traditional Santorini boat. Most harbors run regular cruises and it is a sheer delight to be on board and witness the ethereal sunset.

How to get there

Oia village is world famous for its spectacular sunsets.

Tours: Discover the sunset from Oia village with an organized tour at the best price.

Private transfers: We recommend using an online pre-booked transfer service, which provides transfer by taxi, minibus, or private VIP car and arranging a pickup directly from the port, airport, or your hotel. Alternatively, there’s the option of scheduling a direct pickup by a local driver at the following numbers: 0030 690 679 4316, 0030 22860 22555.

Car rental: Τhere's the option of renting a car and picking it up directly from the airport, port, or your hotel. Using a car allows visitors to discover sunset in Oia and many other places of interest at their own pace.

Public transfers: In Oia village lies the terminal of the bus route Fira > Oia. Fira is where the central bus station of the island is located. Bus connections between this bus station and most areas of the island are available. Buses to Oia depart approximately every hour. Note that time schedules might change according to the season. Check the official timetables here.
Once in Oia, the most famous place to watch the sunset is the Castle. To avoid the crowd, there is a nice spot right near the three blue-dome churches of Oia (located 10 minutes away from the castle).
Tip: Since buses don’t always stop at every scheduled stop of their itinerary, our advice to visitors is to inform the driver about their final destination in advance.

To fix or break your heart
If I wasn't already married, I would certainly love to get married with this amazing sunset at the background. Maybe a vow renewal could also do or a silver anniversary! Really people, this is the sunset that either revives your love or breaks your heart! The best sunset was in Oia sure, but in Imerovigli was also great and certainly less crowded.

    Will remain in me forever
This is one sunset I will never forget!! The picturesque island of Santorini is eminent for legendary tales. Nature is at its best as the sun kissed the island, beautiful beaches and romantic sunset add glory to the place. Now I know why millions of tourists across the world come to this beautiful and wonderful place - to enjoy tranquility and pure nature. There are numerous spots in Santorini that boast of beautiful and unobstructed view of the sunset. I loved watching the fireball slowly disappear into the magnificent Aegean Sea. The vibrant orange and pink colors added beauty to the environment. This sunset will remain with me forever.
