The Catholic Cathedral of Santorini constitutes the main Catholic church on the island and lies very close to the Orthodox Church.
It is located in the Catholic quarter of Fira and stands out for its vibrant colors. 

The minster is in great contrast to many of its Byzantine neighbors.
Its peach-colored exterior and size make it catch one's eye from afar. There is also a wonderfully ornate clock tower standing proudly and overlooking the town. The interior is beautifully decorated with large religious portraits framed with pillars.

The dome from the interior is lilac blue, while other parts are colored orange and cream. The church is a three-isle basilica with a dome.
The Cathedral is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist. The church was greatly damaged by the earthquake in 1956 but was renovated in 1975.

How to get there

The Catholic Cathedral is located at the center of Fira just a 10-minute walk from the bus station and 5 minutes from a private parking lot.

Car rental: There’s the option of renting a car and picking it up directly from your hotel. You can then visit the Catholic Cathedral but also many other places of interest.

Public transfers: Fira is where the central bus station of the island is located. Bus connections between this bus station and most areas of the island are available. Note that time schedules might change according to the season. Check the official timetables here.
Tip: Since buses don’t always stop at every scheduled stop of their itinerary, our advice to visitors is to inform the driver about their final destination in advance.
