An ancient relief was discovered yesterday by chance, during excavational works for the water supply and sewerage system in Perissa Santorini. The relief which is 1,82m long, 0,91m wide and 0,51m thick depicts two male figures sitting on a couch. The man on the right is of mature age and above him there is the insciption MELIS, which is his name. The man on the left side is young and the insciption above him reads HARIKLIS. The wider region of Perissa is of great archaeological interest. This is why the Archaeological Service was watching the excavational works and the relief was pulled up without any problem. The archaeologists will examine the relief to determine its dating.
