The Cyclades group of islands won top honors at the 2006 Philoxenia Tourism Awards, with the Island of Santorini leading the pack with three honors. The awards were presented as part of the 22nd International Tourism Exhibition Philoxenia, which took place in the city of Thessaloniki in the first week of November. Santorini won the award in the category of Best Romantic Destination as generally expected by the public. The other two prizes were in the categories of Best Romantic Hotel for Hotel Heliotopos in Imerovigli and Best Hotel Breakfast for Hotel Heliotopos, again. Another hotel in Imerovigli, Hotel Icons, was included in the list of Five Most Romantic Hotels. The Cyclades group of islands reinforced its unrivaled reputation as a premier tourist region by bagging the Best Entertainment Destination award for Mykonos Island. The entire Cycladic group joined the prestigious list of five best-loved seaside holiday destinations and won awards for being the best family-friendly and children-friendly destination. Organized for the first time by Helexpo, the national exhibition agency of Greece, the Philoxenia Tourism Awards were selected through online balloting at the Philoxenia website and by physical ballot paper made available in selected newspapers.
