1st International Biennale

The organizing team of the Santorini Biennale of Arts has the pleasure to announce the 1st International Biennale of Santorini that will take place on the island from August 1st till September 30th, 2012, while some parallel events have already started since July 1st. This Biennale is the idea of artist designer and economist Kikos Papadopoulos and is supported by the Municipality of Thera and the Estia Association of Pyrgos. The mission is to promote emerging as well as established artists working between the borders of tradition and modernism. The theme of the Biennale is the Past: history, time, memory and nostalgia. The works show how artists define their relationship with the Past, how their memories affect Present and how this will influence Future. The Art Categories are: art installation, ceramic art, collage art, comic art, drawing, short film, glass art, graphic design, illustration, industrial design, painting, paper art, photography, sculpture, short film, video art and a song competition. With works of more than 200 artists from 25 countries on display, the exhibitions will be organized in various venues throughout the island so that they open a dialogue with the public. Parallel events will take place in the main square of Pyrgos village, including talks, workshops and educational lectures.
