The Petros Nomikos Conference Center in Santorini: The Thera Foundation has been playing a pioneering role concerning the promotion of Santorini's unique culture, tradition, and heritage. This is a non-profit organization that was set up in 1969 by Peter M. Nomikos. The Thera Foundation also owes a lot to the pioneering spirit of Peter Nomikos who, in cooperation with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute and the University of Cincinnati Urban Planning Department, provides the much-needed impetus to run this one of a kind organization in this part of the world.
The Petros Nomikos Conference Centre was created in 1989. Located in Fira, this conference centre is a landmark in its own right. The splendid Caldera and the mythical volcano provide the perfect backdrop to this magnificent building. The centre can host about 220 guests. Theatre style, classroom style, and conference style arrangements may be booked in advance.
Every year the Petros Nomikos Conference Centre hosts numerous high profile conferences. Over the last years, the foundation has been gaining support and cooperation of the international scientific community through organizing international congresses, conferences, seminars, publication of books and exhibitions. Additionally, it is involved in organizing a wide range of other innovative educational programs to attract the attention of the world community to the fascinating Aegean art and culture, which is indeed magnificent.
