Kanakari beach is situated in the area of Exo Gialos, approximately 4 km from Fira, and is a natural extension of Agios Nikolaos beach. It was named after the now-abandoned facilities of Kanakaris Tomato Factory. A small fishing harbor divides the coast into two beach sections.
Besides the sets of sunbeds and the cafe-restaurant at the northern part of the beach, Kanakari is unorganized to the most extent and covered with volcanic sand and rocks. You can get there by car and use the parking area at the tiny port.
Enclosed by beautiful rock formations, the beach is the ultimate option for anyone who wants to stay away from crowded seashores, comprising a peaceful place to swim near Fira.
Additionally, in this area, coming across some of the local wildlife, including ducks and swans, is common.
