National Geographic presents the Volcano of Santorini: Santorini boasts one of the most studied volcanoes in the world and constitutes a true inspiration for many volcanologists. All over the planet, volcanoes are among the most destructive powers and volcanic eruptions have annihilated developed civilizations throughout history.

Among several active volcanoes, the volcano of Santorini has achieved worldwide fame urging scientists to search deep into the myth of this ancient volcano.

In fact, the documentary entitled Doomsday Volcano is dedicated to the volcano of Santorini, one of the largest and most mysterious volcanoes in human history, and sheds light on the huge explosion that occurred 3,500 years ago. The documentary was produced by National Geographic and shown in 2008.
