Paros PWA World Cup
The PWA World Cup of Paros, in the Cyclades: The island of Paros has been one of the most chosen locations for hosting the Professional Windsurfing Association's (PWA) World Cup, since 1993. This event consists of a tour in which a series of competitions featuring different disciplines are held, e.g., course racing, slalom and wave sailing. Each of the competitors participates in his own discipline, having as an objective to win, in order to become in the end the overall champion.
In fact, this is the only professional race of this kind in Greece and it counts on many famous athletes coming from all over the world in order to present their skills in front of the cheerful crowd that this event always gathers. However, these competitions are not limited to professionals, as they include all types and levels of windsurfing, from the basic to the advanced level.
The island of Paros is ideal for hosting this competition as it assures a good use of the summer winds called meltemia. The PWA World Cup is held in the New Golden Beach, on the eastern coast of the island. This beach is an official PWA site and one of the top three in the world. This is partly because of the good sailing standards offered by its waters and the quality of its organization and services. The PWA World Cup usually takes place in early August and its start usually depends on the winds on that specific day.
