General information

Marmara in Paros is a small agricultural village located on the eastern side of the island. The pieces of marble scattered around the village witness the origin of its name (which means marbles in Greek), as they were used for the construction of mansions and Byzantine churches.
Archaeologists believe that the ancient town of Yria lies buried close to the settlement.

Today, the village has a population of about 500 permanent inhabitants who are mostly involved in agriculture.
The architecture of the village is typical Cycladic and the dominant colors are of course blue and white. There are old elegant mansions, small shops and stone houses.

Similar to the other villages of the island, Marmara is an area with religious significance with great celebrations and festivities. The most important is held on September 8th, celebrating the Virgin Mary.

Many beautiful beaches, like Kalogeros, Tsoukalia and Glyfades, are easily accessible from the settlement.
