More about Glinado

The factors that justify the settlement's location were historical, social, and economic. The residents lived in a rocky setting since the Franks owed the fertile parts of the meadow, which reaches the village's edges. The other historical factor was pirate raids. During Glinado's foundation (17th century), the pirate attacks were frequent, and since Glinado lay across Agios Prokopios, the port that pirate ships moored in order to perform raids on land, it had to be as inaccessible as possible.

Guests can admire numerous churches while wandering in the area, the main one being the church of the Transfiguration of the Savior.

Close to the settlement, one can admire the archaeological site of Iria, which features the temple of Dionysus, dedicated to the Olympian god of wine, who allegedly fall in love with Naxos when he first visited it and chose the island as his home.

Glinado's wider region is also very fertile, that's why most residents' vocations are farming and husbandry.
The village has limited tourist infrastructure, including accommodation and eating establishments.

    Village of the gods
This village is perfect. It has retained its "Greekness" and yet many foreigners have bought homes here and happily become part of the friendly community. Mina's taverna, in the village square, is one of the best on the island. The views are wonderful and the easy access to Hora and the best beaches makes it all the more attractive.

    Great great restaurant
Are you looking for some authentic experience? "Mina" is the place to go. But you have to be a meat lover as most of the menu is about meat. All products from food to vegetables comes from their own farm. So, the quality is amazing.
The atmosphere of the restaurant is also very nice as it is located on the main square of Glinado village and it is the gathering point of inhabitants of the village.
