Location: Potamia

In a lovely location, between Mesi and Ano Potamia, is the traditional watermill of Giannis Drillis. The watermill belonged to Stylianos Grillakis, which is why it is also known as the Gryllakis Watermill.
The surrounding region is a truly relaxing setting, with lush greenery and water streams.
The watermill was constructed on the banks of the river and is estimated to be 200 to 300 years old.

In the past, the women of Potamia and nearby villages would go there to wash their clothes and take ground flour from the mill.
Such mills are scattered around the island, as water is abundant in Naxos, in contrast to other Cycladic islands, which usually lacked water. The miller used to reside in the mill, too.

Nowadays, the watermill has been restored by its owner, Mr. Giannis Drillis.
If you visit the area, you can combine it with food at Pigi restaurant, a walk to the Epano Kastro, or follow the path by the river and reach the village of Kato Potamia.

How to get there

Drillis Watermill is located in Potamia village.

Private transfers: We recommend using an online pre-booked transfer service, which provides transfer by taxi, minibus, or private VIP car and arranging a pickup directly from the port, airport, or your hotel. Alternatively, there’s the option of arranging a pickup by a local driver directly at the following numbers: 0030 22850 25835, 0030 22850 24829, or booking your taxi online.

Car rental: Τhere's the option of renting a car and picking it up directly from the airport, port, or your hotel. Using a rental car allows visitors to discover Drillis Watermill and many other places of interest at their own pace.

Public transport: The central bus station of the island is located at the Port of Naxos. There are few buses from Chora to Potamia during the day. Line 9 reaches Potamia. Consider that time schedules might change according to the season. Check the official timetables here.
Tip: Since buses don’t always stop at every scheduled stop of their itinerary, our advice to visitors is to inform the driver about their final destination in advance.

    Amazing place
An amazing place with a river and so many trees! This is exceptional in a Cycladic island and a contrast to the rest of the area. A very relaxing place that reminded me of Tuscani.
