I have travelled for 12 years (5 yrs on ships) and I have seen close to 100 countries, but the Greek islands especially Mykonos cater for tourism and at the same time have managed to keep their identity. Mykonoshas the perfect balance of all things for a holiday. Perfect beaches -the northern ones are the best, but something should be done like a weekly cleaning (water with too many plastic bags), beautiful villages –I loved Agrari. The restaurants were great. I really can't find a thing I don't like about Mykonos. I will come to Mykonos again and again and I surely recommend it without reserve!

In my opinion, people living in Mykonos are very polite, don't steal, cook good dishes and have very clean areas. And Mykonoslives all day and everyday. I am Turkish and I love Greek food and alcohols. Also tavernas all around the island are excellent. You can stay all night long there. I was very excited when I shared my food with Petros the pelican. Just stay a long time on the island, because after holiday you will really miss it.

Young will not regret going there

Most people we spoke to agreed that staying at a family beach like Platis Yialos was best, because it was calm and quite during the day. It is easy for the young set to get to Mykonos Town or Paradise Beach for the evening clubs, and relax during the day. For young adults traveling there, staying right in MykonosTown is best. They can take a 10 minute bus ride to the beach during the day, and go back to town in the evening. All the buses go to Mykonos Town, so when they leave the clubs in the late evening they are already in town or can get an easy ride there. If they are staying on the beach, they must go to Mykonos Town first, then get another bus to the beach. NOTE: buses stop running after about 1 or 2 a.m., so be sure to check the schedule. About the clubs, the stories are correct - Mykonos has some of the BEST clubbing around. 20 somethings will not regret going there. We felt quite safe, even amongst the crowds in Mykonos Town. The only thing missing were trash bins on the beaches. When we bought food from local superetts and ate on the beach, it was very difficult to find a place to toss the trash. People finally gave up looking and left the trash on the beach. There should be some bins available.

Better food in Mykonos Town waterfront

Food was acceptable. Kosmoplaz had a very acceptable breakfast included. The other beach front restaurants were acceptable, but not great. NOTE: you need to rent beach chairs on the beach, (which is controlled by the restaurants on the beach), 10 euro for 2 chairs plus umbrella, but then you can get some of this money applied to your lunch or dinner that same day, IF you eat at the restaurant that rented you the chairs. If you think you want to eat at a specific restaurant that day, go to THEIR part of the beach and rent from them. If you are a hotel guest, you will have to be forceful to get a set of beach chairs in the FIRST row, by the water. They all tend to give the guests 2nd and 3rd row chairs, and save the front row by the water for those people coming to the beach from other parts of the island. I think this is probably true no matter where you stay on the island. BUT insist, and you will get a front row beach chair. Try the restaurants on the waterfront in Mykonos Town. Better food is found here than on the beaches. Check prices first, many types of fish are SUPER expensive. But most other food is reasonably priced.

Stay at one of the beaches

If you are a family, stay at one of the beaches. Try to get a hotel on the beach. Mykonos is hilly, and your hotel, just 200 m from the beach, could be 200m almost straight up a hill. Kosmoplaz Hotel was on the beach with really pleasant and helpful staff. The rooms were clean, the a/c worked well, and there was plenty of hot water.

About the trip to Mykonos

The plane flight from Athens to Mykonoswas very short. There are plenty of cabs if your hotel does not provide pick up transportation. It was about 10 euro to Platis Yialos (also known as Platis Gialos). Taxi driver had a card with the prices to different parts of town with him. It looked like an official government price list. As to see it when you ask the price to your destination. People we met took the ferry from Athens and said while long, about 5 hours, it was pleasant. And cheaper than the plane. BUT you can get a really reduced fare on Agean Airlines if you take one of the really early flights. Our 7:00 a.m. flight was $35.

Mykonos is known to Greek people as the party island. It's where they go to have a Mardi Gras experience. The main town is a cluster of tiny shops and winding streets and it's easy to get lost, which is part of the fun. The restaurants and hotels are more expensive than other islands, but it it's worth it if you want to experience the islands as the Greeks do. The island of Delos is a short trip away and is an extensive archeological site. But Delos is closed on Mondays, and the excursion boat's last trip out is 11:00 AM. Plan to go early. WARNING: I had booked a ferry ahead of time through GA Ferries to go from Mykonosto Crete. The GA Ferries office was not open from 4 PM until 7:20 PM, and my boat left at 8:00. I spent a panic filled afternoon wondering if I would be able to get my ticket. There are also two ports, Old Port right in the main town and New Port, which is two miles away. Get your tickets early and know at which port your ship will dock.

Our travel was a mix of work and vacation. My fiance attended a conference, and I followed because I've been to Greece many times before and like it very much. We got to Greece from Sweden by plane and then took a speed boat from the port of Rafina to Mykonos. I had a good trip, but the crew on the ferry to Mykonoswas not very polite, a disappointment. Before our arrival, I was very curious, as I have only been to two Greek islands before and never so far away. I have been to Crete and Lesbos. I had heard that Mykonos was the most beautiful and I agree. The island was beautiful and the beaches, too. Well, a little to much adjusted for the tourists at Platis Gialos, a little bit hard to find authentic Greek restaurants with classic Greek food, but it was easier in Mykonos town, we really liked the restaurants there. I particularly liked a small restaurant in Chora -I don’t remember the name- only visited by Greeks, authentic Greek food, very nice and cheap. Mykonos is a beautiful island, and I recommend choosing staying in Chora, but tourists should be prepared of the high prices; it’s a disappointment that it has been so expensive to visit Greece since the Euro became the currency. I’d like to visit it again in the future and I surely recommend others to visit it. In comparison to other countries I’ve visited in the past,

The trip: I arrived on Mykonos island by plane and by boat. The trip was very good with no delays. Flight out of Barcelona and boat departing Piraeus
Reasons for going to Mykonos: I had heard so many good things about this wonderful island from friends who had been to Mykonos.
More: When I finally arrived on the island I was amazed at how beautiful it is. The weather was perfect, clear sunny skies everyday. The food was delicious and there was a large variety, though a little expensive. The beaches were excellent with sun beds and great service form the beach bars. The most impressive thing was the nightlife and the people of the island, everyone was so friendly. I would definitely come back to this paradise.

I arrived on the island by boat with the Blue Star Ferries. The trip was very good with no delays. Definitely worth getting the speed boats as they are reliable. The slower ferries are always delayed!
Reasons for going to Mykonos: Proposed by travel agency, recommended by friends, discovered on the Internet
Idea about Mykonos Island before arriving: You will be relaxing on pretty beaches and also a lot of night life, very good food and also a nice temperature
Favorite things about Mykonos
- Best Beaches : Every beach is wonderful
- Best Activity : Hanging out on the beach
- Best Bar/Pub/Club : Paradise club / super paradise club
Negative opinion about Mykonos Island:
The island has good qualities the only things missing are green areas there are none and the prices on everything is very very expensive and also the only food that is not good is the bread it's like a spong in every restaurant you go it's the same
Recommendations for future visitors:
Wonderful beaches it's like you are swimming in crystal water and you can relax everywhere you go on Mykonos.
