Travel time from Athens to Mykonos is really long, about 7 hours with a slow ferry. So try to travel with the fast ferry and if possible go business class, economy is not very comfortable, especially if you want to sleep. The nightlife on Mykonosis insane - mid afternoon life as well! The beaches are lovely but very overcrowded. We never really left Paradise so can't really comment on any of other beaches. We only had 2 days so just enjoyed the beach at our campsite and the nightlife. There are 3 bars at the campsite and another club just up the road. Greek Souvlaki was also very good and gyros (tastes also good but very stodgy). The dining experience however is questionable. We were 2 girls on our own and we found the waiters a bit sleezy.

Bad luck

Mykonos was a beautiful island with great beaches but I guess I was too bad luck in these vacations. I was robbed in my sleep in my hotel room. It was a shocking, traumatical and depressing experience that some strangers entered my room while I was sleeping. The police station had a huge line-up of other tourists who had been robbed but it seemed to me that they did nothing to try to catch the thieves and recover my staff. A second bad point is that Mykonosis much overpriced (20 euros for a burger??). I knew that it wouldn't be cheap, but I couldn't imagine that. The staff of some restaurants can also get unpleasant if they are tired. The island generally looked to me more of a teenager spot, with loud music and young fellows dancing all day and night. There were some quiet spots for people for my age (35), but only a few.

Strange but lovely Paraportiani

One hot day in Mykonos, I run into a beautiful church with a strange shape. When I returned home, missing the island, I was looking in the web for photos of Mykonosand saw that the strange church had an even more strange name: it was Panagia Paraportiani. I learned that it actually consisted of five churches which had been united into one. It is a shame that the church was close, I wish I had seen its interior. This would have been my first entry into an Orthodox church.

Crazy parties all day and night

If you are Greek and you want a place for all day parties, Mykonos is the island to go! The village are picturesque and I loved the small paths of the island... Perfect beaches with both loud music or quit corners...The beaches of Ornos and Paradise were great, lot of beach sports and lot of dancing!

Visit the cafes and the bars in Little Venetia. Nightlife on Mykonosis good but I would like it more if all the restaurants did not refer to Italians. It is perfect if you know where to go and as a Greek I did. But it is more difficult for foreign tourists, since they usually stay in Chora for food, where most of the restaurants are touristy and not traditional. You should better visit smaller villages, such as on Ornos. The bad thing is that it costs more, but it's worth it.

Also, more taxis is something that has to be done on Mykonos. Once you are there, you should watch out for the drunken drivers. August is the best period to go or at the opening and closing parties. Also nice at the beginning of May, when university students go as it is cheaper.

Nice island but a bit expensive

What I saw of the island was vey nice. The beaches were packed, but we did travel during a greek national holiday. However, I believe that the ebaches on Mykonos are packed during the whole of the summer season. The sea is glorious, so clear and blue. Nightlife for me was dinner and a couple of bars, although I think I was in bed before the real partying commenced. The food on Mykonosis of high quality, but very expensive. So are the refresments on the beaches, one bar charged 6 euros for a beer, which I though was very expensive.

I absolutely loved every minute on Mykonos. I had been in Ibiza for the week before and I enjoyed Greece so much more. The people, the food, the nightclubs and beaches on Mykonoswere all fantastic. Food in Greece is fantastic, fresh and not expensive. I had problems deciding what to eat because there is such an extensive range of dishes on the menu wherever you go. Loved drinking the rose wines and the hospitality was fantastic. I stayed in Zephyros hotel. I booked this hotel as it was the last one left with availability so I was prepared for the worst! The owner was the most hospitiable man I have ever met and made everyone feel as though they were
family. It was clean and perfectly located. My overall? Get to the beach no later than 12 for a sun lounger and hire a scooter and go to a different beach every day.

No heels for the ladies

The direct flight from Instanbul to Mykonos was very good and short. The number of fligjts though should be more, as there is only one flight a week now. Mykonos island was beautiful and the beaches amazing. Best beaches Psarou and Paranga. Do not rely on public transport to see the island, better rent a car, although Car rental prices should be cheaper. Food and prices and the quality is very nice. Most of the time, the restaurants are very crowded that you have to wait sooo long time...this is quite boring. Also events and parties at all beaches should be announced somewhere. You do not know what is happening and just feel awkward where to go at nights. One advice: no heels for the ladies, they just stay in the luggage, you cannot wear them to walk on the stony up and down roads.

Had the opportunity to spend a week at the Adonis Hotel in Mykonos directly next to the Town Center. The owners Roz and Mahili are two of the most wonderful people you will meet on the island. They don't run this like a hotel, but like a family home. They will handle all your requests and needs with a smile and so helpful!! Very quiet, so close to walk into Town (1 block), and willing to let you in on all the 'local' spots to eat and drink and play. Just the best and not expensive!

A friend had suggested to go to Mykonos for holidays and we did go last summer. The charter flight from Rome was very convenient and in time. The island was too much fun, all parties and dances. Pierros is the best club to go. The only thing that bothered me was that I rented a car when I arrived on Mykonosand it was too expensive. I wll not make the same mistake again in the future. Moreover, better parking spaces and streets are needed. In general, it is a lovely island. It is usually promoted as a gay destination, but actually it is not that much... it is as much gay as any gay friendly place in the world. But I would go back there because the beaches and the sea are fantastic.

More things needed

Before getting on the island, I had a general idea on the place. I had read about good and hot weather, beaches, blue sky and traditional Greek white houses. The best beach I went to was Elia. Mykonos has beautiful beaches with clean waters to swim in. However, there are some things missing from Mykonos: most beaches have no public changing and shower rooms, there are no frequent bus services to the beaches and there is no tourist help-desk. There is also one thing I would like to advise future visitors; be careful when selecting a rental car, because last minute prices might be too expensive. It will be better if you book in advance.
