I have been on Mykonos for 8 times since '95.

A lot of fantastic beaches (20 more or less) in only 85 square km, wonderful sea, nightlife, nice people (in June-early July and late August-September, full of the worst Italians during the rest part of summer).

Mykonoshas all you need.
Do you want to stay on your own? Perfect: you only have to avoid the southest beaches.
Do you prefer crowded beaches and loud music from 4-5 pm? Choose Paradise and SuperParadise.

You won't ever blame yourself to have been to Mykonos!!!
Do you want to lay down naked? No problem anywhere.
Do you prefer to go on smoking? No problem anywhere once again: none will look at you as you were crazy.

Before getting on Mykonos I had a good idea of what it would be like. Many friends had visited before and I had seen innumerable photos of it. It is a lovely island, with amazing beaches, friendly people and very authentic. Work needs to be done with public transport, as more frequent service is needed. Greek drivers also drive like crazy. I was surprised not to see an accident on Mykonos. Roads are too narrow, so pay attention drivers! My favorite beach was Paranga, I loved swimming and listening to music at the same time. Also there were many young people and all were in excellent mood. This is the ideal island for swimming and having fun. If you are interested in ancient sites, take the boat to the island Delos. I am not interested in history and I didn't go, so can't tell about that.

Very expensive

Chora is very pretty and has everything you need for a short break. 4 days is as long as you'd want to stay in Mykonos as it's very small and not much going on. Also, 4 days is probably all people could afford. 5 euros for two cups of tea is a complete rip-off. 18 euros for two vodka and lemonades is downright robbery! Mykonos is very expensive unless you're lucky enough to find somewhere that's not a tourist trap. You should reduce the prices of everything in Mykonos. Let fewer cruise ships dock there and imporve roads and roadsings. Keep spelling of village names consistant on all maps and signposts. Where's the Neolithic town they mention on map? We couldn't find it anywhere. Agios Giannis could also be better advertised as a lot of people in the UK like the film Shirley Valentine and would visit the beach it was set.

Mykonos was absolutely breathtaking. We stayed at the Hermes Hotel which had the most amazing view of Mykonostown and the ocean. No two words can describe. A picture perfect view. Generally, stay just above Mykonos town. Most places above it have a sensational view of the town and of the ocean and it's only a 5 minute walk. Paradise beach is insane. Loved every minute down there, especially Tropicana's 5pm daily party and off course the famous and well known elephant man (known for his elephant).

The nightlife is crazy, Paradise Nightclub is still full at 6am in the morning. People were so much fun and the Greeks really know to enjoy themselves. I met these Greeks and in whichever club we went, they were there before us! As if they were going from one club to the other every two hours and then again from the beginning. The most strange thing is that they were always with a drink and hand and they never got so drunk as not to have their senses. Aaaah, I had a great time! Mykonos was amazing, it has a balance of beauty and party all in one.

An experience to remember

Don't go to Mykonos if you are looking for a nice, relaxaing place. You will get tired after a few days and in the end music will sound like noise to you. Villages there are very nice, all coloured in white and blue. Beaches are wonderful, I couldn't imagine that Greek sea would be so beautiful. This was my first time on a Greek island and it was an experience to remember. Happy people all over the streets, delicious smells of giros in every corner, fresh fish, clean water to swim, beaches bars open all day and night. Amazing! Some of my friends found Mykonosa bit expensive but I think it is OK. Of course, we don't pay 5 euros for a coffee in Italy but this wasn't a price that surprised me.

Looking for the vampire

Last summer in Mykonos, I heard some tourists talking about ghosts and vampires, but didn't pay much attention.

As I was searching the Net a few hours ago, I found the following page www.shroudeater.com/cmykonos.htm

It says that there was a vampire that died on Mykonosin 1701 and that priests had to cremate it on a beach between Agios Stefanos beach, Armenistis bay and Agios Sostis monastery. It also says that the ghost of this vampire wanders around in that area till today and that is why no houses have been built there since then, nor anyone goes there at night.

I live in Britain and as all British I believe in ghosts, don't you?

It is a shame I didn't know about this story when I was on the island. I would have gone to this beach to see for myself...

Well, I don't believe in ghosts, but wouldn't go to that beach either...
This was interesting story to know about Mykonos. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Fresh fish right by the sea

I think you will find good food everywhere in Mykonos, but the restaurants in Little Venice have the best and most special view. Taverns by the sea are found in every beach in all Greek islands, but only Mykonoshas such a lovely neighbourhood like Little Venice. Fresh fish in a table just by the sea, with view to the entire harbour... The only negative point is that prices are more expensive there than in the other restaurants of Mykonos. But, we expect that, don't we? Good things are usually paid more...

I envy you for having such a lively island! Best Club Cavo Paradiso, especially if you like electro music.

Rent a car and get lost

As it was a bit off season (early September), nightlife on Mykonos wasn't as wild as we expected but we enjoyed the sea the most. This was the most appealing part of the island for me. The relaxed athmosphere and the lovely inhabitants of the island helped me have a great time. Food was not th best I've had so far in Greece, still it was satisfactory enough. Don't bother taking a taxi or waiting for the bus on Mykonos, just rent a small car for as long as you stay. Do it instantly when you reach the island and get a discount, travel around the island as much as you can, freely, since you have chance to get lost :) Especially go see the beaches down south. Super Paradise and Elia are a shore to the eye and have very relaxing water.

Enjoy sightseeing

We are too old for nightlife (71), so we prefered sightseeing in Mykonos. Chora is beautiful and has romantic spots, such as Little Venice and the windmills at sunset, but it has a lot of traffic, especially in August, when we went. We also enjoyed Ano Mera and Delos. The food on Mykonosis very good. We liked the mezze, fish, lamb, souvlaki and good wine. Drinking a frape was also very much in the day, but prices were high.
