Mykonos island is one of the most popular destinations in the Cyclades and can be approached by plane or ferry.
Mykonos has two ports: The Old Port which is in the Town of Mykonos (Chora) and the New Port at Tourlos region, which is the one operating with passenger ferries to Mykonos.
The New Port (Tourlos) is the main port of Mykonos and operates exclusively the typical passenger ferries. It is located 2km north from the Town of Mykonos. So, whether you are traveling from Athens ports (Piraeus, Rafina or Lavrio) or another island on a typical passenger ferry, you will arrive at, or depart from the New Port (Tourlos).
It is very common that hotels provide shuttle bus services. So, when booking your room confirm if they can pick you up from the Port.
During high season the Port can be very crowded and many ferry delays are inevitable.
During high season it is certain that there will be some traffic around the Port area. So be prepared and arrange your program accordingly.
The New Port is only 2km away from the town of Mykonos (Chora), and although it is a 30’ walking distance, it is not recommended. There is no pavement leading to the Town and during summer season temperatures are high and streets are busy.
Private transfers: Taxis are available at the New Port. There is a Taxi stand on the left side as you disembark from the Ferry, next to the Bus station and there will be taxis waiting for the scheduled ferry arrival that can take you directly to your destination or you can call one. The best way is to use an online pre-booked Mykonos transfer service with a taxi, minibus or private VIP car and arrange a pickup directly at the port. Alternatively, you can arrange a pickup directly with local drivers at the following numbers: +30 22890 23700, +30 22890 23400.
Bus: The New Port is connected to the Town of Mykonos (Chora) or the old Port by Bus. The bus station is located on the left side as you disembark from the Ferry, next to the Taxi stand. There are scheduled departures almost every 30’. For more information, check their official website https://mykonosbus.com or call (+30) 2289026797.
Taxi: T (Tel: +30 22890 23700, +30 22890 23400 ). Be aware that Taxis during high season can be extremely difficult to find.
Car Rentals: There are a few car rental companies around the Port area. It is strongly recommended to have pre-booked your car especially if you travel during high season. Last-minute bookings are extremely rare to find and very expensive during the summer period. You can rent a car with 25 euro per day and pick it up directly from the port. You can then discover the best places of interest in Mykonos.
Seabus: There are Sea buses connecting the New Port with the Old Port and the Town of Mykonos. Departures are every 30’ and the cost is €2 per person. For more information check www.mykonos-seabus.gr or call ( tel +302289028603).
