In an event organized by Conde Nast Traveler, the largest travel magazine in the USA, Mykonos was declared no 1 tourist destination for the Americans. The event was held in central Manhattan and the Greek Minister for Tourism, Mr Dimitris Avramopoulos, was the keynote speaker. Mr Avramopoulos attributed this feat to the high quality of services provided in Greece. He also said that the country's historical and cultural background played a major factor in tourism influx. At a ceremony in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, Avramopoulos accepted the Conde Nast Reader's Choice Award for Greece as the most favored destination amongst the Americans.
