Movies filmed in Mykonos

Movies filmed in Mykonos: The island of Mykonos is famous for its picturesque landscape, which provides an excellent movie set. Its traditional Cycladic architecture with small cubic houses, world-known windmills, Little Venice neighborhood, amazing beaches, and exhilarating sunshine create a unique movie background. In fact, many Greek and foreign films have been set in Mykonos.

The Paramount film Shirley Valentine, directed by Lewis Gilbert, was shot in 1989 on Agios Ioannis beach, 4 km from Mykonos town. The plot narrates the life of a middle-aged Liverpool housewife who finds herself miserable and wonders what happened to her life. Everything changes when her best friend wins a paid vacation for two to a Greek island. There, Shirley sees life in another prospect and builds a new world for her.

The Bourne Identity (2002) Movie with Matt Damon also has a scene in Mykonos.

Another less-known film set in Mykonos in the summer of 2005, is Kamaki, the first independent feature film written and directed by the O'Connor brothers. It is a comedy and narrates the story of Sam, an English young man who comes to Mykonos to work for the summer and finds himself mixed up in trouble.

Mykonos certainly offers an amazing background for movies and TV series. It is not surprising that many Hollywood stars choose to spend their vacation on the island. Over the years, it has become an international jet set destination and its fame is getting even bigger while movie scenes are filmed there constantly.
