Milos Pollonia

General information

Pollonia Village in Milos is the island's second biggest settlement. Located on the northeastern part of the island, it is a charming fishing village built around an inlet that features a small harbor.
Despite its picturesque atmosphere and traditional character, the settlement is not only well-developed, but it is in fact considered one of the main tourist resorts on the island.
Full of whitewashed houses along the coastline, Pollonia preserves its authentic style of Cycladic architecture and is known as one of the most beautiful seaside villages in Milos.
The area boasts a few sights worth visiting, some fun things to do and a lovely beach.

It is believed that Pollonia was named after the ancient temple of Apollo. In terms of tourist facilities, the visitors will find anything they wish for, from mini markets and shops to car rental facilities.
As a fishing village, Pollonia is famous for its fish and seafood taverns, while it is also considered one of the best locations for your accommodation in Milos, offering budget studios, family apartments, luxury suites and everything in-between.

More info about Pollonia

In Pollonia lies the second port of Milos. It is much smaller than Adamas and it is only used by local fishing boats and boats that serve the connection between Pollonia and the islands of Kimolos and Glaronissia. For this reason, a day trip to Kimolos (or an even longer stay) is always on the table.
Kimolos is a picturesque Cycladic island but unlike Milos, it remains untouched by mass tourism and maintains a low profile with a quiet atmosphere and a traditional character.
Glaronisia, on the other hand, is a deserted islet and only its coastline can be approached by boat as it is very rocky. It has great geological significance due to its impressive rock formations and it is entirely made of lava. Excursions to Glaronissia are very popular. To get there, you can rent a boat on your own or participate in an organized trip.

For the time you spend in Pollonia, the village does have a few interesting things to see. Agia Paraskevi church is a very popular viewpoint for those who want a nice place to watch the sunset.
Another important ecclesiastical monument is Saint Nicholas, a very photogenic chapel that stands out for its Cycladic style of architecture. The small church is painted in white and blue and its location offers amazing sea views. It is frequently used to house wedding ceremonies.

Conveniently enough, Pollonia beach is ideal for swimming or just relaxing on the seashore. It is sandy, with shallow waters and trees that offer natural shade. The beach is particularly popular among families with children.

For those who enjoy long hikes, the hiking route from Pollonia to Phylakopi will allow you to enjoy the landscape. Phylakopi is a significant archeological site that dates back to the Prehistoric period. The Neolithic settlement started developing from 9000 BC to 4000 BC and its decline began around 1000 BC. The ruins can also be reached by car.

Following the same road from Phylakopi, don't miss a stop at Papafragas beach, with the beautiful cave of Papafragas that makes it one of the most visited places on the island!

    Eating place
Pollonia is just a regular small village where you go to eat or to catch a boat for Kimolos. That's it.
I must say we weren't really content with our restaurant, although everyone says that it is not possible to eat bad there. :)
