General information

Pahena Beach in Milos is a picturesque village near Plaka, gradually blending with the island's capital. It is a typical island village that showcases the traditional Cycladic architecture of whitewashed buildings and narrow, cobblestone alleys.

The church of the village is dedicated to Saint Charalambos and was built in 1853 in place of a smaller chapel. Visitors have the opportunity to see contemporary artworks, as well as the oldest icon found on the island. It depicts the Virgin Mary and was moved there from an abandoned monastery on an islet near Milos.

On Holy Saturday, people gathered in Plakes to watch the ceremony during which the figure of Christ was taken down from one of the three crosses standing on a hill above the village.
