The Archaeological Museum of Kythnos was established in 2023. It is housed in the old school of Chora, a building designed in the late 19th century. Its exhibition features archaeological findings discovered in several sites across the island, dating from antiquity to meta Byzantine years.
More specifically, visitors will be able to admire:
• Stone tools used for hunting, fishing, and food picking from the ancient site of Maroulas, dating back to the 9th millennium BC
• Ore samples and mining residues
• Findings from the archaeological site of Vryokastro
• Artifacts from ancient tombs
• Objects unearthed from the island’s countryside, showing the engagement of inhabitants with agriculture and livestock
• Items dating to the Byzantine and post-Byzantine era
The museum is open on Wednesday and Monday to Friday between 08:30 and 15:00.
