The Cathedral Church of Ios is located in the heart of Chora, the most lively place on the island, and near the chapel of Agios Ioannis Prodromos. It is dedicated to the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary and it is celebrated every year on March 25th.
The church was constructed in 1930 and it officially opened its doors one year later. It was built on top of the ruins of an old church which was dedicated to Agios Nikolaos (Saint Nicholas).
The church is a basilica and it has a distinctive Cycladic style, with white walls and a blue dome, as well as a beautiful bell tower. Inside the church, there are various impressive murals and icons.
Note that its interior may not be open to the public daily.
