Ios Agia Aikaterini Church

The church of Agia Aikaterini in Ios is dedicated to Saint Catherine and is situated in Chora. It is an Orthodox church with a traditional Cycladic design and whitewashed walls. A small belfry with a single bell stands above its main entrance.

The church of Agia Aikaterini is one of the oldest churches in Chora and it replaced a Byzantine church, which was also constructed on the ruins of an ancient temple, possibly dedicated to the Olympian god Apollo. Various archaeological findings have been discovered in the area surrounding the church, suggesting the existence of an ancient Roman market.
