Koumbara is the best beach close to Chora. It gets popular with young people mostly. At first, you wil see a long beach with yellow sand and some wooden unbrellas. Do not expect to catch any umbrellas though, except if you go early, before noon. Then you will appreciate the warm and clean water. Our hotel was close to Koumpara, so we spent a lot of our time there, swimming or dancing in the beach bars.

Manganari was my favourite beach in Ios. Actually, our hotel was close there, so we used to spend most of our daytime in the beach. Manganari is a very popular beach, especially in July and August. Pure sand on the shore and crystal water, no wind to make your swim uncomfortable and a huge rock to dive. Although the beach gets very crowded, there is always extra space to lay your mat, as it is huge in length.

To my mind, Papa has the best water on Ios!! Extremely clean, it was as if you could clearly see the bottom of the sea and the fish moving around!! Partly isolated but this is good because no annoying people with tennis rackets and beach balls will spoil your time.

The best beach I went on ios was Koumbara. Its sand was the best thing, very soft and pall. I enjoyed a lot the hours I spent there because it was much fun. There is a tavern at the edge of the beach and it cooks deliciously. I found the seafloor a bit rocky, but it is OK, I didn't mind very much.
