Folegandros Hero Monument

The Hero Monument in Ano Meria Folegandros, in the Cyclades: The inhabitants of the tiny island of Folegandros have always had a strong patriotic feeling and have helped their country in all the wars it went through, from the Greek War of Independence and the Balkan Wars in the early 20th century to the two World Wars that followed. Like all the other regions, so did Folegandros and sent its men to fight for their country.

On the side of the central road of Ano Meria village, there is a marble monument dedicated to the soldiers who died for their country. It has their names on it as well as the date of their death. The marble may seem a bit faded nowadays but letters are well-read.
