Location: Town

The Church of Virgin Mary has been built on a hill 500 meters from Stavros village and 10 minutes from the beach. The church is a popular sunset viewpoint since it overlooks the sea.

It has a traditional Cycladic style of architecture, with whitewashed walls and it in fact consists of two symmetric temples that are connected to each other under a single belltower. It was possibly founded in 1892, as the inscription above its entrance suggests.
The church is dedicated both to Virgin Mary and Saint John. It celebrates every summer on August 15th and various festivities are organized on the occasion of the Assumption.

The church is very photogenic and many visitors get there to watch the sun setting. From there, you will have a panoramic view of the sea, the Cycladic landscape and the traditional settlement of Stavros.
