General information

Gavrio Village Andros: Gavrio is part of the municipality of Hydroussa. It is the only active port connecting Andros to Rafina, and it is located on the west coast of the island. Gavrio was a fishing village until 20 years ago, when it started to slowly develop its tourist infrastructures. Restaurants, taverns, bars, cafeterias, hotels, camping, rooms for rent, tourist offices, car and motorbike hiring offices and many shops welcome the visitor, making it easier for him to enjoy his holidays.

The main settlement of Gavrio can be quite simple and picturesque when the port traffic calms down. Gavrio is the starting point of excursions towards the north of the island on search of fine sandy beaches and picturesque villages.

Towards the south of Gavrio some golden beaches can be found as well as the amazing old tower of Agios Petros. From Gavrio one can reach the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi, many fine sandy beaches, and some villages such as Fellos, Makrotantalos, Amolochos, which used to be the capital of the area during Turkish occupation, Chartes, Varidi, Kalivari, Ano Agios Petros, Yides, Kalokerini and Vitali.

    A lovely fishing village
Gavrio is the port of Andros. It is the first town you meet when you enter the island. And the impression is good. Itactually looks like a fishing village. There are fishing boats in the harbour and old fishermen unfolding their nets. Some fish taverns line the dock and lovely cafeterias offer a precious cold drink, after so much heat in Greece! The gist shops are lovely and people do not press you to buy. I just noticed that there are not enough playgrounds for children, which is one thing to ameliorate in this lovely village.
