Exhibition of famous sculptress Sophia Vari

Jun 29, 2014 — Sep 28, 2014 • Category: Events
An exhibition dedicated to the world-famous sculptress Sophia Vari, wife of the Colombian artist Fernando Botero, is organized this summer at the Goulandris Museum of Contemporary Art in Andros Town. The exhibition will last from June 29th to September 28th, 2014.

Sophia Vari is famous for her sculptures of giant dimensions that have been placed in central squares of cities in Europe, America and Asia. In fact, the sculpture Theseus in Kotzia Square, Athens centre, is her work. Her sculptures are also found at Palazzo Vecchio/ Piazza della Signoria in Florence, Saint Germaine des Pres in Paris, Piazza Esedra in Rome, Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid, and elsewhere.

The 74-year-old sculptress herself curated the exhibition in Andros, choosing minimal marble works that will be presented in the interior rooms of the museum, not at the external rooms, so that they will not affect the natural landscape. Only one of her exhibited works will be of large dimensions. The artist has also chosen to present drawings, oil paintings, watercolors and other early works, made before she settled down on sculpture in the early 1980s.
