Andros Agios Petros beach

General information

Agios Petros Beach Andros: Leaving Gavrio and heading on the central road towards Batsi, you come across the beautiful seaside village of Agios Petros. Just 3km North East of the main port town, Gavrio, this sleepy village is host to a gorgeous western sea front and of course, the tower of Agios Petros. The drive, or walk, through the western part of the island is heavenly, making every minute something to remember. Like the rest of the island, the beach at Agios Petros gives you a sensation of living in a dream.

Unlike the tourist-ridden east coast of Andros Island, the western coast is far less crowded and soothing for those seeking more space and privacy. A long, sandy beach lies invitingly in wait for anyone looking for a gentle swim in shallow waters, or just a nice tan under the Greek sun.

Mountainous and rough, the whole region remains rather green throughout the year. Adding to the color of the region, the blue sea and the golden sand make it the ideal place for the lonely traveler. The beach, though, is not the only place to spend time at, when visiting Agios Petros. The Pyrgos (or tower) of Agios Petros situated above the village, is one of the most well-preserved ruins on the island of Andros. The tower is approachable by car, but the last few meters need to be covered on foot. Built during the Hellenistic period in the 2nd century, this 20-meters high tower is a major attraction in the region. Its use, though unknown, is guessed to be as a part of the Greek empire's signaling system.

The long beach with soft golden sand merges into the crystalline waters of the sea. Sloping softly into the sea, the beach is an ideal place for children wanting a cool dip as well as for lazy tourists. The beach is probably the main attraction in a village that is rapidly growing in size as well as reputation for being a major tourist attraction. Many taverns have popped up in the village and they offer an ideal break from the sun. With very little shade on the beach, visitors are advised to carry adequate protection from the sun.

Decent connectivity by a major road, as well as accessibility on foot makes the village of Agios Petros an ideal destination for any traveler. Offering a bit of history with a bit of tavern fun and a lot of beach, Agios Petros beach ensures that all trips from Gavrio are interrupted for a day of laze and beauty.

    Nice and fun
There were some umbrellas but you have to go early in the morning to catch one, so we had to buy our own umbrella from the super-market. Clean water and soft sand. If it is evening, lying on the sand is too much fun and relaxing. No beach bar there, so bring your own refreshing drink before you go to Agios Petros. Try Bacardi watermelon while you lye on the sun bed, it's a delight!
