Island tour in Amorgos
General Description
This island tour is a full-day, 8-hour trip starting from Vigla Hotel (in the village of Tholaria). We will first move towards the Monastery of Hozoviotissa, a majestic Byzantine monastery built on the side of a large hill. We will enter the monastery, where the monks will greet us and offer us some local, traditional raki, and a tasteful loukoumi, a jelly-like sweet covered with powdered sugar!
Our next stop will be the beautiful church of Agios Georgios Valsamitis, which is built next to a sacred spring. As we move south, we will encounter and pay a visit to the Tower of Agia Triada (Holy Trinity Tower), located in the village of Arkesini. A tall watchtower that was built to protect against any invasions, Agia Triada is an important part of the island’s history.
Following that, we will stop at a nearby shore in order to swim in Amorgos’ clear waters, then continue our journey to the island’s capital, Chora, where we can explore its scenic alleyways, mesmerizing architecture, and large traditional windmills! There, we will stop to feast at one of the village’s taverns before concluding our experience by returning to Vigla Hotel.
