The church of Agios Georgios Valsamitis in Amorgos Cyclades: An island of spirituality and purity, Amorgos is famous for its wonderful chapels that dot the countryside, from one side of the island to the other. These chapels have a peaceful atmosphere and they are surrounded by the gorgeous nature of Amorgos, with the wild mountainsides, the sparse greenery and the blue sky that dominates all over Cyclades islands and have made them so famous all over the world.

Such a lovely chapel in Amorgos is the church of Agios Georgios Valsamitis, on the southern side of the island. Built in the 17th century, this small church is a dependency of Hozoviotissa Monastery. Located about 4,5 km south of Chora, on the way to Kamari and Arkesini, Agios Georgios Valsamitis stands on top of a hill, overlooking the valley beneath and the sea.

The chapel is white-washed and has a paved courtyard. Inside, the atmosphere is so solemn, with beautiful icons and a lovely iconostasis. It is a three-aisled basilica with an arched roof and a tall bell tower. Right next to the church, there is an old watermill.
