Feast of the Assumption in Amorgos

The biggest festival in Amorgos, the feast of the Assumption, takes place in August 15th.
The festival is held in Panagia Epanachoriani, where famous local drinks, such as rakomelo, are served to the visitors. If you are a Greek cuisine lover, you can also taste some of the specialties of the island, such as “patatato” and “xidato”.
The feast of the Assumption also takes place in Katapola village. After the liturgy in the church of the village, both locals and tourists participate in the procession of the sacred image of Holy Mary in the port. There, little boats light up smoke generators to celebrate!
