Rethymno Melidoni

General information

Melidoni is a picturesque village built at an altitude of 250 meters, located about 25 km east of Rethymno Town. Various cultural events take place there during the summer, attracting plenty of visitors. However, the most famous and significant sight in the village is Melidoni Cave, where many unarmed inhabitants were suffocated to death during the Cretan Revolution.

You can also do a selection of entertaining activities in Melidoni, including hiking, horseback riding, and diving. If you’re looking for something to eat, the village offers some Greek taverns serving delicious local specialties. Alternatively, you can enjoy a morning coffee at one of the small traditional cafes.
