Mar 07, 2015 — Mar 08, 2015 • Category: Events

The second Pierra Creta, a ski mountaineering race in Crete Island, is taking place this weekend in the snow-covered slopes of Mount Psiloritis. The event is organized by the Mountaineering Club of Heraklion, with the help of regional authorities. The race is taking place on Sunday, March 8th, 2015 and the starting point is the location of Lakkos Mygerou, close to Livadia village in the prefecture of Rethymnon.
The impressive mountains of Psiloritis constitute a perfect location for the race due to the sufficient snow coverage and the fantastic scenery. Skiers will have the opportunity to admire the beauty of the magnificent hills all along the route and enjoy the famous Cretan hospitality after the race.
The concept of Pierra Creta was originally conceived by a group of locals who were passionate about this sport. The event was successfully organized for the first time in 2014.
Unlike last year, when the race was for individuals, this year's participants will run in teams of 2 to 5 members. Competitors from all around the world have scheduled to join the race and contribute to the island's development, with respect to the environment.
