General information

The main beach of Agia Galini is located about 55 km south of Rethymno Town, near a quiet resort that combines sea and mountain.

Boasting amazing turquoise waters, Agia Galini is well-organized with sunbeds and umbrellas and offers all kinds of facilities, as well as a wide range of water sports. On the east end of the beach, where a small river opens into the sea, the beach narrows and visitors will be able to find some quieter, though pebbly spots. The village offers everything needed in terms of accommodation and entertainment.

Agia Galini stands out for its impressive cliffs and its rugged water caves, which are definitely worth exploring. It is surely no coincidence that these cliffs are associated with the myth of Daedalus and Icarus; this is why two statues showing the mythical figures getting ready for their fatal journey stand on the top. On the western edge, under the hill, you can still find some German artillery stations. Through their galleries, you can reach the top of the cliff and marvel at the stunning sea views.

For fans of camping, there is also an organized campsite near the beach, while, during the summer months, small boats depart from Agia Galini for Preveli and the Paximadia islets.
