Location: Town

Agios Minas is one of the biggest churches in Greece and the biggest one in Heraklion. The cathedral is located in the center of Heraklion city, on Kornarou Square, right by a much smaller 18th century church which is also dedicated to Agios Minas, the patron saint of Heraklion. The church celebrates every year on November 11th, which is a public holiday for the people of Heraklion.

The church of Agios Minas was constructed during the Turkish occupation period. Construction works began in 1862 but they stopped in 1866 due to the ongoing Cretan Revolution. In 1883 and after the revolution was over, construction works started again and the church finally opened in 1859.
On the outside, the church has a cruciform architecture, while its interior has a style similar to that of a basilica.
