Heraklion port is conveniently situated on the northern coast of Crete, right next to Heraklion Town, the capital city of the prefecture. Its most iconic trademark is the old Venetian fort of Koules. It is within walking distance from the city center, where you can find all kinds of tourist facilities.

It is the biggest port on the island of Crete and the third busiest port in the whole country.

Daily ferry crossings connect the port of Heraklion to numerous other destinations, including Athens (Piraeus), Santorini, Mykonos, Naxos, Paros, Syros, Rhodes, Sitia (Crete), and many more.
The ferry companies that operate these routes, using either conventional or high-speed vessels, are Blue Star Ferries, SeaJets, Fast Ferries, and Minoan Lines. During the high season (May to September), daily ferry crossings are available to most destinations, while during the low season, there is at least one weekly connection to Santorini, Rhodes, Karpathos, and Kasos.
