Heraklion Ethia

General information

Ethia Heraklion: On top of Mount Sfentilia, at an altitude of 970 metres lies the tiny village of Ethia. Surrounded by wild landscape and high mountainsides, Ethia has a population of about 500 people, most of whom are involved in agriculture and cattle-breeding.

With traditional style, Ethia has small stone houses and lots of churches, such as the Church of Prophet Elias. On the name day of this saint, July 20th, there is a large panigiri in Ethia with traditional dancing in the square and live music. The village is located 90 km south of Heraklion town.
