Heraklion Tourism

Heraklion tourism

Heraklion is the birthplace of Nikos Kazantzakis, one of the most renowned writers of Greece, who grew up on the beautiful island of Crete. Being the largest town of Crete, Heraklion is famous for the ancient treasures and the Venetian monuments which stand proudly to this day. Heraklion Town is more like a large modern city but it has not lost its traditional atmosphere and certain things remain there to preserve its uniqueness and diachronic value. Among them is the Minoan Palace, the Venetian castle, traditional houses and other monuments which are equally interested.

Tourism in Heraklion is very developed, as it hosts the busiest airport and port in Crete. Heraklion tourism is not restricted to the main town and the close beach resorts, but there are many other hidden places to discover in the rest of the region. There is a tourist office in Heraklion Town where visitors can collect valuable information. Also there is a tourist police station in Heraklion Town for any problem that might occur during your Crete vacation.

Leaving Lentas, a tiny roadside chapel's white stucco facade and warm terracotta roof is a striking contrast to the monstrous, stony mountain behind it. The blue fluidity of the sea softens the rough and rocky landscape.
Under the canopy of a palm tree, creamy white umbrellas and sun beds are perched seaside, making these front row seats to the sea, undeniably dreamy.
Umbrellas in hues of azure blue and tangerine tones dot the sandy shores of Hersonnisos, Crete. The stone wall perfectly complements both the pretty parasols and the grainy earth.
While visiting the village of Fodele,( El Greco's birthplace), this striking contrast of colours caught my eye. So magically Mediterranean!
This 'window box' of gnarly, pink geraniums caught my eye while exploring the old houses built on a hill in the village of Fodele.
A canopy of grapevine, jasmine and trumpet flower covers this porch in the village of Fodele, Crete. Talk about curb appeal!
