General information

In the area of Viannos, right after the small port of Kastri, you can find the pristine Skouros Beach. You will recognize it by the chapel of Agios Myronas that overlooks the beach. It has got its name from a dark rock jutting out of the sea (‘skouros’ means ‘dark’ in Greek).

Combining sand and pebbles, it boasts transparent azure waters, and it is lined by verdant tamarisks that afford some natural shade. Most of the time it is not crowded, so it is perfect for anyone wishing to take a swim in a soothingly tranquil location. The beach is not organized, but the nearby settlement of Kastri has some nice taverns where swimmers can enjoy traditional Cretan mezes or a beverage.
