General information

Agios Nikitas Beach is a charming, pebbly shore located 67 km south of Heraklion, on the eastern side of the Asterousia Mountains. Its crystal-clear teal waters along with the rocks surrounding it compose a wild landscape. The area is not touristically developed, which makes it an ideal choice for isolation and relaxation.

The beach can be found very close to the monastery of Agios Nikitas. The monastery, which is considered miraculous, was built in 1640. It’s situated on a hill with an endless sea view, and you can still see some old murals on its walls.

On the eastern side of the coast, you will find another pebbly shore, separated from the main beach of Agios Nikitas by a large rock. It is called Kalogerou o Arolithos, which means "the monk’s rock".
According to the monks, the footprints of Saint Nicetas’s horse can still be seen on it. You can access this beach through the path on the hillside or swim there from Agios Nikitas beach.

A little further to the east lies another shore, Chiromili Beach, which is small and secluded, ideal for a peaceful and quiet swim.
