Location: Halepa

Named after the second wife of the prominent statesman Eleftherios Venizelos, Elena Venizelou Square is located in the historic Halepa suburb. Here stands a statue of Venizelos, which was crafted while the couple was still alive.

On one side of the square, you will find Venizelos’ house, which has now been converted into a museum housing the National Research Foundation Eleftherios K. Venizelos. Besides it, you can see the Evangelistria Church, a big double-bell tower church with an impressive blue dome, which is the religious jewel of Halepa. Around the square, you can also see the old French School, built in 1858 on behalf of an Egyptian merchant, and the impressive church of Saint Mary Magdalene with its characteristic Russian-style architecture.
