Right in the center of the fascinating municipal garden of Chania, Kipos is the first-ever municipal cinema in all of Greece! Operating for over 100 years, Kipos Municipal Cinema started its journey using acetylene and petrol gases to showcase its films, until its eventual switch to electric power. In addition, it features a stone-built clock from 1913, which used to be the old clock tower of Chania Town!
Kipos has an exterior space with a garden and arrays of simple chairs, as well as a small snack spot with refreshments and quick bites. Furthermore, the cinema hosts screenings of some of the latest films, including The Whale (starring Brendan Fraser), historical drama film Corsage, Tár with Cate Blanchett, and Marvel Studios’ Wakanda Forever, as well as awarded short films from various festivals. Additionally, what makes Kipos an essential visit for cinema enthusiasts is its selection of vintage and contemporary classics! Plus, given its inexpensive entrance ticket, Kipos is a great budget option for a night out in Chania Town!
