New theatre in a quarry
• Category: News
The local authorities of Chania Crete are studying the possibility to construct a new open theatre in the abandoned quarry of Marathi, just 12 km east of the town of Chania, in the peninsula of Akrotiri. The quarry is not working for a long time and representatives from the Polytechnin School of Crete who examined the place decided that it would be a nice location for an open theatre. Along with the construction of the theatre, trees will be planted to make the location look better and less barren.
People from the municipality of Akrotiri stressed out that this is a positive action since the quarry has now fell in disuse since the 1980s, when it stopped working. They also mentioned that the area has two more abandoned quarries, but Marathi is the largest.
