Family saved from sinking carriage

A Norwegian family’s moonlight horse and carriage ride went terribly wrong late on Friday night after the vehicle plunged into the sea at the Venetian port of Chania in Crete. Three Good Samaritan bystanders rescued the four passengers and the young driver from the sea. Unfortunately, the horse was pulled to the sea bed by the weight of the carriage and drowned.
Hundreds of people on the busy Chania seafront simply looked on as the horse and carriage sped towards the sea in front of the city’s custom office, officials reported. They suspect that the horse was startled by a loud noise.
Though horse and carriage rides have been taking place in the city since many years, authorities said that, this was the first time such an incident has taken place.
